Randal Corsen Quartet  With his quartet Randal presents a repertoire consisting of mainly original compositions and a couple of newly arranged Antillean standards. The music can best be described as "Antillean jazz", a fusion of jazz with music of his native island Curaçao, but certainly not excluding Cuban, Brazilian and other Caribbean influences. The quartet performed at the North Sea Jazz Festival in 2005, toured the Netherlands, Latvia and Curaçao. The music of the Randal Corsen quartet can be heard on the CD "Evolushon", which also features David Sánchez on tenor sax, Izaline Calister on vocals and Leonardo Amuedo on guitar. The CD was awarded the prestigious Edison Jazz Award in 2004. The quartet members are: Eric Calmes – acoustic & electric bass Born in Curaçao, a very versatile bass player and a big name in the Dutch jazz circuit with many compositions, arrangements and productions on his account, founder and leader of the critically acclaimed Antillean jazz group "Zamanakitoki". Eric is also a teacher at the Rotterdam Conservatorium. He previously performed with Izaline Calister, Ray Anderson, Monica Akihary. Enrique Firpi - Drums Enrique Firpi was born in Uruguay and has been one of the most popular drummers in his homeland since he started his professional career at the age of 14. Enrique moved to Holland in 1987 and became one of the most popular drummers in the Dutch jazz and latin circuit. He has toured all around the world, has been working with artists such as: Deborah J Carter, Josee Koning, Laura Fygi, Lilian Vieira, and can be heard on numerous CD’s. Martin Verdonk - Percussion Previous members of the Randal Corsen quartet, both featured on the CD ‘Evolushon’: Pernell Saturnino – percussionBorn in Curaçao, earned many credits in the international Latin-jazz circuit. He is a graduate at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, a member of the David Sánchez sextet, performed with a.o. Paquito D’Rivera, Joe Zawinul, Danilo Perez, Wynton Marsalis. You can also see Pernell performing with Paquito D’Rivera on the video/DVD documentary "Calle 54". Liber Torriente - drums Born in Havana Cuba, a great virtuoso on drums and timbales. He studied classical music at the conservatorium in Cuba, performed as an 18 year old with Cuban nr.1 salsa group: NG La Banda. One of the most poplar drummers in the Dutch jazz circuit. Tumbábo is a 16-piece band, consisting of some of the finest Antillean and latin-jazz musicians in Holland. The band presents a selection of Antillean standards, all newly arranged by Randal, and sung in Papiamentu, the native language of Curaçao. The arrangements are characterized by a blend of Antillean musical traditions and rhythms with influences from jazz, funk, rock and salsa. With this repertoire Tumbábo will gives tribute to Antillean music and composers like Rignald Recordino, Oswin 'Chin' Behilia, Macario Prudencia, Rudy Plaate and many more.
